“It’s a waste of time.”
“It’s a fad.”
“I don’t care what people eat for breakfast.”
“It’s not worth the effort.”
I’ve heard it all about why Twitter isn’t worth the time or effort. Maybe you’ve heard the same things about Twitter, or even said them. Well, I didn’t listen. Why? Because they aren’t true…
Twitter helps me find new customers, employees, and career opportunities – and it can do the same for you.
Playing Catch Up
The pessimists who uttered the phrases above are now playing catch up: trying to tweet regularly, following people to read and learn, trying to grow their follower count, and more. They’re finally figuring out Twitter is fun, informative and valuable. I enjoy reading great articles and breaking news, and laughing at funny tweets. And I get to watch some really cool videos, too. Twitter is my news source. In fact, I have a Twitter list called “daily news” that provides me with a quick read of all the latest news I am interested in.
Twitter = Endless Opportunities
Twitter has been a great resource for me in so many ways:
- I look for hires via Twitter posts (and it’s worked!)
- I’ve found jobs for others using Twitter
- I find new customers, clients and vendors
- I’ve had a lot of business opportunities arise
- Writing opportunities for magazines/newspapers, as well as this blog
Best of all, I have the opportunity to communicate with people I wouldn’t “meet” otherwise. I tweet with celebrities, big business leaders, venture capitalists, authors and many other fascinating people. And there are more cool things to come as I continue to focus on Twitter as a legitimate business vertical.
So ignore the naysayers. I’m glad I did. Once you commit to Twitter, connect and communicate and all kinds of cool things will happen for you as well.
